OCD Live Forum-What is Scrupulosity?
Please join us for a very special live forum.
Scrupulosity is a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involving religious or moral obsessions. Scrupulous individuals are overly concerned that something they thought or did might be a sin or other violation of moral doctrine.
Presenting Dr. Karen Cassiday, PhD, Managing Director The Anxiety Treatment. Chair, Scientific Advisory Board Beyond OCD. President, Anxiety & Depression Association of America. Founding Fellow & Diplomate, Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Clinical Assistant Professor, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Sciences.
Emily, a college student who has suffered with scrupulosity OCD that began in her mid-teens and was undiagnosed for several years until her OCD nearly prevented her from completing high school. Her symptoms became so severe that she was paralyzed by constant rituals to verify the sincerity of her faith and her status with God and became unable to participate in school or her life at home. She tells about her inspiring journey from total disability into a joyful ability to embrace her life and her faith.
Dr. Cassiday and Emily will discuss the steps Emily took during months of intensive exposure with response prevention therapy in both an outpatient and day treatment that led her to her current state of well-being.
There will be a Q & A after the presentation.
